Crime 101 on PrimeVideo: Who wrote this trite script? Some commie from Calcutta?

Mark Ruffalo’s and Chris Hemsworth’s acting are amazing. Ruffalo the uncelebrated cop and Hemsworth the unsure boy in a man’s body who hasn’t developed any social skills and confidence, he cannot make eye contact with anyone. The script is all about unrelated and uninteresting events

Let us review Crime 101. Chris Hemsworth acts as a person who wishes to escape childhood poverty by committing one crime after another where he does not hurt anyone but just accumulates wealth. He keeps promising himself that he will retire when he attains that magic number about, which he is very clear. He meets a girl who accidentally knocks his car and then keeps pushing him that retirement can come anytime if only Chris can accept that the has made enough money already. She refuses to eat at a fancy restaurant where Hemsworth takes her and where he himself has entered such a restaurant for the first time. She almost rejects him because he took her to a fancy restaurant as it shows that he does not match her interests, which are incidentally, cheaper restaurants.

So, who wrote this script? Some communist from Calcutta? All this balderdash sounds so familiar as if some CPI(M) dada in his torn dhoti is frothing with this from his mouth.

Mark Ruffalo’s and Chris Hemsworth’s acting are amazing. Ruffalo the uncelebrated cop and Hemsworth the unsure boy in a man’s body who hasn’t developed any social skills and confidence, he cannot make eye contact with anyone. The script is all about unrelated and uninteresting events. I wonder how such third world tripe crept into Hollywood? Not good at all. Halle Berry’s role in the movie is eminently forgettable. In fact, I have already (seriously) forgotten what she did in the movie. No, this is not because I am 57 now and pushing 60. I can remember other women and what they do. It’s the scriptwriter and the director. Honestly. It’s more the scriptwriter than the director.

Crime 101 is supposedly a 2026 crime thriller film written and directed by Bart Layton, based on the 2020 novella by Don Winslow. Well, I did not find the movie to be about crime. It was about an unsure human being trying to find a life he had lost in childhood. If the scriptwriter had worked on this angle, and the director had supported him on this, the movie would have exploded at the box office. But hey, they never asked me. Right?

The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Halle Berry, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Nick Nolte. It was nice to see Nick Nolte after decades. Maybe he worked in the meantime. I never noticed him then. I remember fondly watching him and his work in earlier movies in the 1980s.

No wonder, Crime 101 was a box-office bomb, grossing $72.3 million worldwide on a budget of $90 million. I would only watch this movie, in fact, that is why I did, for Ruffalo and Hemsworth’s craft. Otherwise, I would just go for the remote and switch to something better on Netflix.
