The stupidity begins when English is viewed through the rules of grammar from Hindi or Sanskrit. Different languages, different grammar

Someone asked me, “English is a funny language. Why is naked pronounced nay-ked but baked is pronounced as bect instead of bay-ked?” My answer would be: The English language is a beautiful tapestry of words and phonetics borrowed from eight languages. The problem begins when people start comparing English grammar with Sanskrit or Hindi grammar. They are different languages therefore, have different points of beauty to be admired and cherished. English structure is more like Urdu, which was created similarly. The origin of the word baked is from the celtic word bacan, referring to the process of cooking. While, the word naked traces back to the Proto-Indo-European root *negʷ-, meaning “to strip” or “naked”. Over thousands of years, this root evolved across various languages (such as Sanskrit nagna and Latin nudus), eventually giving rise to the Old English word nacod. Therefore, different origins – different phonetics and different grammar.
